2008 Cruiser Rules
2008 CRUISER RULES – 85 Speedway, Ennis, TX
- GENERAL CRUISER REQUIREMENTS
- Car
- Car must be stock street type passenger car, station wagon, El Camino, or Ranchero.
- Minimum wheelbase of 112″.
- No commercial vehicles, convertibles, or sports cars.
- Body
- Cars must be strictly stock.
- No cutting on body or holes in the hood.
- Hood may not be hulled and must be in place at all times.
- Complete bumper-to-bumper steel unibody must be retained.
- Floorboards and fenders must remain in car.
- Doors and trunk must be welded or bolted shut. Trunk may not be hulled.
- Rear fenders may be cut for tire clearance a maximum of 16″ from center of rear axle.
- All plastic and fiberglass body pieces must be removed.
- May add steel plate minimum of 1/4″ thick by 12″ high outside of doors for driver protection.
- All glass, chrome (except bumpers) and interior must be removed.
- Racing seat is allowed.
- Weight
- Minimum weight 3600 pounds with driver after race.
- Any added weight must be securely bolted or welded to the car.
- Suspension
- No modifying of the suspension is allowed.
- Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock for that make and model of car.
- Bumpers
- Stock bumpers only. Must use stock bumper mounts.
- May be reinforced with two braces between the bumper and frame.
- Braces must be welded to stock mounts to keep bumper from falling off if impacted.
- Must have chains fastened from the frame to bumper for safety.
- Front Bumper
- One (1) single upright loop may be added between the front bumper and radiator for protection. Max. 1 1/2″ O.D. material no wider than the frame horns, with a max. height above the frame of 12″. One (1) brace on each side from loop to frame in front of core support.
- Rear Bumper
- One (1) single upright loop may be added between the rear bumper and trunk for protection. Max. 1 1/2″ O.D. material no wider than the frame horns, with a max. height above the frame of 8″. One (1) brace on each side from the loop to frame with a max. length of 8″ measured from the back of the loop to the back of the brace.
- Car
- GENERAL DRIVETRAIN REQUIREMENTS
- Engine
- Stock engine for that make only.
- Must be in original location.
- No racing cams allowed.
- Hydraulic camshaft and lifters only.
- Stock intake manifold only. No aftermarket manifolds. No high rise.
- Stock carburetor for that make only. No double pumpers or dual line.
- No Holly carburetor on GM.
- No adapter plates.
- No headers.
- Stock cast iron exhaust manifold.
- Muffler and tail pipe may be removed.
- Header pipe must be retained.
- Must vacuum check at a min. of 19 inches of vacuum at 800 to 1000 rpm.
- Transmission
- Must have stock transmission, no powerglide.
- Automatics must have stock working converter.
- Transmission cooler.
- Drive shaft must be painted white.
- Rear End
- Stock passenger car rear end.
- Brakes
- All cars must have O.E.M. hubs and brakes with a min. of two (2) wheel brakes in working order.
- Three (3) or four (4) wheel brakes are recommended.
- Brake test may be held throughout the year.
- Engine
- GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Roll Cage
- Steel roll cage mandatory.
- Minimum of 1 1/2″ O.D. x .120 wall tubing is required.
- Front and rear roll bars must be connected at top.
- Top bars must be at least 2″ above driver’s head.
- Must have two (2) braces to front and two (2) braces to rear. Cannot go through firewall.
- Driver protection
- 1/4″ steel plate on outside of door or at least three (3) side door bars running from the front upright to the rear upright in each door are required (both recommended).
- Wheels and Tires
- Steel Wheels Only 7″ Wide Maximum With 1″ Lug Nuts On All Wheels. Oversized Wheel Studs Recommended.
- 70 — 75 Series Street Tires with D.O.T. Numbers. 60 series are now allowed
- ???
- No recaps or racing tires allowed.
- Fuel Tank
- Must be securely mounted in trunk.
- Trunk floor may not be removed, but must have a way of letting gas escape, such as drain holes.
- Fuel tank must have a screw-on cap.
- Fuel tank must be painted white.
- Fuel cell is allowed.
- Fuel
- Gasoline only.
- Radiator
- Only one (1) radiator. Must be centered in front of engine in a vertical position with no body modifications.
- May add 1 1/2″ angle iron from frame to top of radiator with cross bar to fender. Must be behind core support.
- Battery
- Must be securely mounted and covered with sheet rubber or mounted in a marine box to prevent acid spilling.
- Battery must be in good working order, capable of starting the car.
- Seat Belts
- All cars must be equipped with an approved racing type 3″ wide safety belt with a 2″ wide shoulder harness.
- Car Claim
- Car claiming another car must start the A-Feature with the car and finish no more than five (5) positions behind the car claimed and must also take the checkered flag.
- Claim will be $500 cash and your car.
- Both cars will be complete as raced. May keep safety belts and fuel cell and racing seat only.
- If an owner refuses to sell after being claimed, then that car, owner, driver and car number will be suspended for one (1) week for the first offense and forfeit all points and monies won that night. Second offense, barred for four (4) weeks and forfeit all monies for that night and all points for the season.
- Track may check complete car at anytime. Feature winner will be checked every night.
- Engine claim of $300. Same claim procedures as car claim.
- Driver Rule
- Anyone driving over three (3) times this season in any other class above Bomber or finishing in the top ten in points of a higher class, may not compete in the Cruiser class. No driver may compete in a Cruiser and any other class in the same night.
- Race Rule
- Cars may race in either direction at any given time. Speedway officials at the start of each race will determine the direction of the race.
