2009 BOMBER RULES – 85 Speedway, Ennis, TX

  1. General Bomber Requirements
    1. Car
      1. Car must be stock street type passenger car, station wagon, El Camino or Ranchero.
      2. Minimum stock factory wheelbase of 108″.
      3. No commercial vehicles, convertibles, or sport cars.
    2. Body
      1. Cars must be strictly stock.
      2. No cutting on body or holes in the hood.
      3. Hood may not be hulled and must be in place at all times.
      4. Complete bumper-to-bumper steel unibody must be retained.
      5. Floorboards and fenders must remain in car.
      6. Doors and trunk must be welded or bolted shut. Trunk may not be hulled.
      7. Rear fenders may be cut for tire clearance a maximum of 16″ from center of rear axle.
      8. All plastic and fiberglass body pieces must be removed.
      9. May add steel plate minimum of 1/4″ thick by 12″ high outside of doors for driver protection.
      10. All glass, chrome (except bumpers) and interior must be removed.
      11. Racing seat is allowed.
      12. May use any mfg steel body, NO AFTER MARKETS.
    3. Weight
      1. Minimum weight 3400 pounds with driver after race.
      2. Any added weight must be securely bolted or welded to the car and painted white.
    4. Suspension
      1. No modifying of the suspension is allowed.
      2. Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock for that make and model of car. (May use after market top a-frames stock replacement tube type only. No offsets.)
    5. Bumpers
      1. Front bumper must be constructed of 1 1/2 O.D. x .095 tubing no wider than bumper horns.
      2. Uprights no wider than the bumper horns. Must be maximum of 1 1/2″ x .095, 12″ overall height including bumper.
      3. Leading edge of bumper may no extend forward more than stock bumper.
      4. Rear bumper stock.
      5. Must have rounded ends with no sharp edges.
        1. One (1) single upright loop may be added between the front bumper and radiator for protection. Max. 1 1/2″ O.D. material no wider than the frame horns, with a max. height above the frame of 12″. One (1) brace on each side from loop to frame in front of core support.
    6. Rear Bumper
      1. One (1) single upright loop may be added between the rear bumper and trunk for protection. Max. 1 1/2″ O.D. material no wider than the frame horns, with a max. height above the frame of 8″. One (1) brace on each side from the loop to frame with a max. length of 8″ measured from the back of the loop to the back of the brace.
  2. GENERAL DRIVETRAIN REQUIREMENTS
    1. Engine
      1. Stock engine for that make only.
      2. Must be in original location.
      3. No racing cams allowed.
      4. Hydraulic camshaft and lifters only.
      5. Stock intake manifold only. No aftermarket manifolds. No high rise.
      6. Stock carburetor for that make only. No double pumpers or dual line.
      7. No Holly carburetor on GM.
      8. No adapter plates.
      9. No headers.
      10. Stock cast iron exhaust manifold.
      11. Muffler and tail pipe may be removed.
      12. Header pipe must be retained.
      13. Must vacuum check at a min. of 15 inches of vacuum at 800 to 1000 rpm.
    2. Transmission
      1. Must have stock transmission, no powerglide.
      2. Automatics must have stock working converter.
      3. Transmission cooler.
      4. Drive shaft must be painted white.
    3. Rear end
      1. Stock passenger car rear end, may be locked.
    4. Brakes
      1. All cars must have O.E.M. hubs and brakes with a minimum of two (2) wheel brakes in working order.
      2. Three (3) or four (4) wheel brakes are recommended.
      3. Brake test may be held throughout the year.
  3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
    1. Roll Cage
      1. Steel roll cage mandatory.
      2. Minimum of 1 1/2″ O.D. x .120 wall tubing is required.
      3. Front and rear roll bars must be connected at top.
      4. Top bars must be at least 2″ above driver’s head.
      5. Must have two (2) braces to front and two (2) braces to rear. Cannot go through firewall.
    2. Driver Protection
      1. 1/4″ steel plate on outside of door or at least three (3) side door bars running from the front upright to the rear upright in each door are required (both recommended).
    3. Wheels and Tires
      1. Steel Wheels Only 8″ Wide Maximum With 1″ Lug Nuts On All Wheels. Oversized Wheel Studs Recommended. NO BEADLOCKS
      2. 70 — 75 or 60 Series Street Tires With D.O.T. Numbers
      3. Asphalt Pulloffs May be Used. Grooving OK. (Optional I.M.C.A. modified tire with I.M.C.A. STAMP maybe used PULLOFFS RECOMMENDED.)
      4. NO RECAPS.
      5. IMCA G-60-15 Hoosiers mod pull-offs
    4. Fuel Tank
      1. Must be securely mounted in trunk.
      2. Trunk floor may not be removed, but must have a way of letting gas escape, such as drain holes.
      3. Fuel tank must have screw-on cap.
      4. Fuel tank must be painted white.
      5. Fuel cell is allowed.
    5. Fuel
      1. Gasoline only.
    6. Radiator
      1. Only one (1) radiator. Must be centered in front of engine in a vertical position with no body modifications.
      2. May add 1 1/2″ angle iron from frame to top of radiator with cross bar to fender. Must be behind core support.
    7. Battery
      1. Must be securely mounted and covered with sheet rubber or mounted in a marine box to prevent acid spilling.
      2. Battery must be in good working order, capable of starting the car.
    8. Seat Belts
      1. All cars must be equipped with an approved racing type 3″ wide safety belt with a 2″ wide shoulder harness.
    9. Protest
      1. Engine protest must be presented in writing prior to the start of the “A” Main. Completed protest form must be accompanied with a $200 cash only tear-down fee.
      2. Tear-down fee of $200 will require the removal of one (1) cylinder head and related components so as to allow measurement of bore and stroke and see piston dome type.
      3. $50 of protest fee goes to the track, no matter the results of the protest.
      4. Person protesting must take the green flag in the “A” Main that night and be signed into the pits that night.
      5. Only registered car owner in Bomber/Pure Stock registration for the current year at this track may protest.
      6. Owners may protest one (1) time in a four (4) week time span on the same car.
      7. First refusal to remove the head for testing will result in the loss of all points and money won that night. Second refusal results in that night’s money and all points for the season being lost.
      8. Tear down must be performed within one (1) hour after the completion of the “A” Main for Pure Stock/Bomber.
      9. Track may tear down or inspect any car, anytime, for any rule violation without money or protest fees posted.
      10. There is an engine claim rule.

        Protest Fees:

        Wheel Base: $50
        Engine Location: $50
        Suspension: $50
        Drive Train: $50
        General Rule: $35 (not disqualifiable)
        Tire or Wheel: $35
        Carb/Intake: $50
        Engine C.I.D.: $200

      “Violation of any rule is subject to disqualification.”

    10. Engine Claim
      1. Engine claim is $300.
      2. This claim must be posted with the track manager before the green flag drops for the “A” Feature.
      3. Claimer must finish no more than (5) positions behind the car being claimed. If claimer does not finish within the five (5) positions, the claim money will be returned. Both cars must take the checkered flag.
      4. Only registered owners, running a car in the “A” Feature and signed into the pits that night will be able to make a claim.
      5. The car of the owner claiming an engine must have run two (2) consecutive weeks prior to the week the engine is being claimed.
      6. Buyer of engine may not claim again for four (4) weeks of racing. No one owner may claim more than four (4) engines per season.
      7. After a claim is made, there will be no backing out, regardless of the outcome of the “A” Feature.
      8. All claims will be accepted. If more than one claim is made, engine will be given to owner finishing furthest back, but within five (5) places of claimee.
      9. Owner of engine being claimed has choice of $300 cash or engine of car owned by claimer.
      10. If an owner refuses to sell after being claimed, then that car, owner, driver, and car number will be suspended for one (1) week for the first offense and forfeit all points and monies won that night. Second offense, barred for four (4) weeks, and forfeit all monies for that night and all points for the season.
      11. Engine claim includes the short block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, oil pan and valve covers.
      12. Claim does not include the flywheel, torque converter, carburetor, starter, motor mounts, sending units, distributor, plug wires, fuel pump, water pump, fan, pulleys, or rocker arms.
      13. All claimed engines must be removed from the car within one (1) hour of the finish of the “A” Feature, at the track.
      14. Track may claim any engine.
      15. Track may tear down any engine, anytime, with no money.
    11. Driver Rule
      1. Anyone driving over three (3) times this season in any other class above Street Stock or finishing in the top ten in points of a higher class, may not compete in the Bomber class. No driver may compete in a Bomber and any other class in the same night.
      2. All drivers must wear driving suits that are made of fire resistant materials that effectively cover the driver’s body.
    12. Race Rule
      1. Cars may race in either direction at any given time. Speedway officials at the start of each race will determine the direction of the race.
