2010 Cruiser Rules
2010 CRUISER RULES – 85 Speedway, Ennis, TX
- General Requirements
- Car must be stock street type passenger car, station wagon, El Camino, or Ranchero.
- Minimum wheelbase of 112″.
- No commercial vehicles, convertibles, or sports cars.
- Body
- Cars must be strictly stock.
- No cutting on body or holes in the hood.
- Hood may not be hulled and must be in place at all times.
- Complete steel body must be retained.
- Floorboards and trunk floor must be complete.
- Doors must be welded or bolted shut.
- Rear fenders may be cut for tire clearance a maximum of 16″ from center of rear axle.
- All glass, chrome, and interior must be removed (EXCEPT BUMPERS).
- Racing seat is allowed.
- Weight
- Minimum weight 3600 pounds with driver after race.
- Any added weight must be securely bolted or welded to the car and painted white with car number on weight.
- Suspension
- Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock for that make and model of car. NO MODIFYING ALLOWED – NO RACING PARTS.
- Bumpers
- Stock bumpers only. Must use stock bumper mounts. May be reinforced with two braces between bumper and frame.
- Must have chains from bumper to frame for safety.
- One (1) single upright loop may be added, between front bumper and radiator, for radiator protection. Max 1.5″ O.D. No wider than frame horns, with a max height of 12″. One brace on each side from loop to frame in front of core support.
- One (1) single upright loop may be added, between rear bumper and trunk, for protection. Max 1.5″ O.D. No wider than frame horns, with a max height of 12″. One brace on each side from loop to frame with a max length of 8″.
- Drivetrain
- Engine
- Stock engine for that make only.
- Must be in original location.
- Hydraulic camshaft and lifters only. NO RACING CAMS ALLOWED OR LIFTERS.
- Stock cast iron intake manifold only. NO HIGH RISE.
- Stock carburetor for that make only.
- No Holly carburetor on GM cars.
- No adapter plates.
- Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds only.
- Muffler and tail pipe may be removed. Header pipe must be retained.
- Must vacuum check at a minimum of 19 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpm. Checked at manifold, not at carburetor.
- Transmission
- Must have stock transmission for make and model of car.
- Automatics must have stock working converter.
- Transmission cooler O.K. Must be out of driver area.
- Driveshaft must be painted white.
- Rear End
- Stock passenger car rear end for make and model of car. NO LOCK UP.
- Brakes
- All cars must have O.E.M. hubs and brakes with a minimum of three (3) wheel brakes in working order.
- Four (4) wheel brakes are recommended.
- Brake test may be held throughout the year.
- Stock master cylinder in stock location.
- Engine
- Roll Cage
- Steel roll cage mandatory.
- Minimum of 1 1/2″ O.D. x .120 wall thickness tubing is required.
- Front and rear roll bars must be connected at top.
- Must have two (2) braces to front and read..
- Must have three (3) side door bars running from the front upright to rear upright of roll cage on both sides of car.
- Wheels and Tires
- Steel Wheels maximum 8″ width. 1″ lug nuts on all wheels. Oversized wheel studs recommended.
- 70-75 series street tires with D.O.T. numbers. No recaps. No racing tires. 60 series O.K.
- Fuel Tank
- Must be securely mounted in trunk.
- Must have way for gas to escape, such as drain holes.
- Fuel tank must have a screw-on cap.
- Fuel tank must be painted white.
- Fuel cell recommended. Fuel cells must have roll-over check valve and flapper valve.
- Fuel
- Gasoline only.
- Radiator
- Must be in stock location. Only one (1) radiator.
- Battery
- Must be securely mounted and covered with sheet rubber or mounted in a battery box to prevent acid spilling.
- Battery must be able to start car at all times.
- Safety, Driver’s Restraint System, Helmet, and Clothing
- All cars must have an ON/OFF switch LABELED CLEARLY and in reach of safety crew.
- Seat belts
- Racing type 5-point seat belts mandatory. All 5-points must be used. Must be securely mounted with 2″ bolts and tabs welded to the cage or frame. Must be less than three (3) years old. If the SFI tag is not present or legible, the belts are not legal.
- Window Net
- Window net with quick release is recommended. Nets may be required at a later date.
- Helmet
- Approved helmets only. Full-face Snell 90 or newer and must have Snell sticker clearly visible inside the helmet. M90, M95, M00, SA90, SA95, and SA00 are legal. If the Snell rating is not visible, the helmet is not approved for racing at this track. SA90 or newer is recommended.
- Protective Clothing
- All drivers are required to wear driving suits that are made of fire retardant material, that effectively covers the driver’s body (multi-layered recommended). Suit must be in good condition with no holes or tears in suit. Driving gloves and shoes are recommended, but may be mandatory at a later date.
- Passenger
- Passengers will be allowed, but must be outfitted the same as the driver. Passenger restraint, clothing, as well as seating, must meet the same requirements as driver.
- Protest
- Engine protest must be presented in writing prior to the start of the A-Feature. Protest forms can be picked up at the track office. Complete protest form must be accompanied with $200 cash (only), tear down fee.
- Tear down fee of $200 will require the removal of one (1) cylinder head and related components so as to allow measurement of bore and stroke and see piston dome type. Will also inspect head for porting or polishing.
- $50 of protest fee goes to the track, no matter the results of the protest.
- Car that is protesting, must be signed into the pits that night, and take the green flag in the A-Feature that night.
- Only registered car owners in the Cruiser class, for the current year, at this track, may protest.
- Owners may protest one (1) time in a four (4) week time span, on the same car.
- First refusal to remove head for testing results in loss of all points and money won that night. Second refusal results in that nights money and all points for the season being lost. Further, the car will not be admitted until the reason for disqualification is satisfied.
- Tear down must be performed with one (1) hour after completion of A-Feature for the Cruiser class.
- Track may tear down or inspect any car, any time, for any rule violation, without money or protest fees posted.
- Car Claim
- Car claiming another car must start the A-Feature with the car and finish no more than five (5) positions behind the car claimed and must take the checkered flag.
- Claim will be $500 cash and your car. Must have competed in the previous two weeks in this class before claim can be made, may be claimed first week.
- May keep safety belts and fuel cell and racing seat only.
- If driver refuses to sell after being claimed, then car and driver will be suspended. One week for the first offense and forfeit all points and monies won that night. Second offense, barred for four (4) weeks and forfeit all monies for that night and all points for the season.
- Top four (4) winners will be checked every night.
- Track may check car at any time.
- Engine Claim
- Engine claim – $300 cash. This claim must be posted with the Track Manager before the green flag drop for the A-Feature.
- Claimer must finish no more than five (5) positions behind the car being claimed. If claimer does not finish within the five (5) positions, the claim money will be returned. Both cars must take the checkered flag.
- Only registered owners, running a car in the A-Feature and signed into the pits that night, will be able to make a claim.
- The car of the owner claiming an engine must have run two (2) consecutive weeks prior to the week the engine is being claimed.
- Buyer of engine may not claim again for four (4) weeks of racing. No single owner may claim more than four (4) engines per season.
- After a claim is made, there will be no backing out, regardless of the outcome of the A-Feature.
- All claims will be accepted. If more than one (1) claim is made, engine will be given to owner finishing furthest back, but within five (5) places of claimee.
- Owner of engine being claimed has choice of $300 cash or engine of car owned by claimer.
- If an Owner refuses to sell after being claimed, then that car, owner, driver, and car number will be suspended for one (1) week for the first offense and forfeit all points and monies won that night. Second offense, barred for four (4) weeks, and forfeit all monies for that night and all points for the season.
- Engine claim includes the short block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, oil pan and valve covers.
- Claim does not include the flywheel, torque converter, carburetor, starter, motor mounts, sending units, distributor, plug wires, fuel pump, water pump, fan, pulleys, or rocker arms.
- All claimed engines must be removed from the car within one (1) hours of the finish of the A-Feature, at the track.
- Track may claim any engine.
- Race Rule
- Cars may race in either direction at any given time. Speedway officials at the start of each race will determine the direction of the race.
